So, like I said...Mister Kanye West has outsold 50 Cent and topped the Nielson Soundscan with an amazing 956,936 copies of his latest release "Graduation" in one week. Dude, only needs 40,000 more to be platinum. 50, didn't fair that bad himself, his album "Curtis" sold an impressive 691,304, but does that mean that he is gonna retire?
I say, why retire, when Hip Hop just proved that we ain't going no where! Kanye's numbers have not been seen in the dwindling record business for opening week, by any artist in more than two full years! Plus, 2007 has been a struggle for many record labels (including the big 6) when record sales are down 20%. This is monumental, besides the whole 50, Kanye beef, this is for the Hip Hop community. The best part is...it didn't have to be a Gangsta rapper either, but I bet there will still be criticism.
In related news...50 can't be that sad. In a recent Forbes list of wealthiest rappers, Mister Jackson is number two, under who else but Jay-Z, with an impressive 32 Million dollars this year. Kanye is number 8 on the list.
